The Human Engine, Leadership and Team Potential at Madeira Startup Retreat
Startups are often discussed in terms of code, algorithms, and revenue. But on monday, March 9th, the Madeira Startup Retreat shifted the focus to the most critical asset of any venture, People.
The day was dedicated to Team Potential and Leadership, exploring how a group of talented individuals transforms into a high-impact, cohesive machine.

Designing the Future of Work
We were honored to welcome Paula Marques, director for the Future of Work at Nova Executive Education, for an eye-opening workshop: “Building High-Impact Teams.”
Paula challenged our founders to rethink traditional management. In an era of rapid change, leadership isn’t about command and control, it’s about unlocking potential. Key takeaways:
-
The Science of Teams: Understanding the psychological safety required for innovation.
-
Adaptability: How to lead through uncertainty and the “Future of Work.”
-
Purpose-Driven Leadership: Aligning individual passions with the startup’s mission.
Personalized Leadership Coaching
During the one-on-one mentoring sessions, each startup had 20 minutes of dedicated time with Paula Marques.
These sessions were an opportunity for founders to discuss their specific internal challenges, from hiring the first employees to managing conflict and scaling culture alongside the product.
At the end of the day our participants left not just with new management tools, but with a renewed sense of responsibility toward their teams. A startup is only as strong as the people behind it, and after today, those foundations are stronger than ever.
