Indico Capital Partners is the first institutional independent VC fund in Portugal. Stephen took some time to talk about what Indico Capital Partners does, the states of investment it targets, its investment criteria and what high tech areas they focus on investing in.
There was plenty more valuable information shared, such as how Portugal and Europe’s ecosystem looks like, what opportunities are there, where and when to look for investment, how much to ask for, and what investors are looking for in a business…
But even for those who don’t have what investors are looking for, Stephan adds: “there are a lot of companies in which we [VCs] can’t invest that are still amazing businesses. So don’t be discouraged, a lot of businesses don’t fit the VC model.”.
After the startups presented their pitch, it was time for the one-on-one mentoring sessions with each.
“You can be a very good manager, but if the market is not there, there’s nothing you can do… And the opposite can be true too.”
“There are a lot of companies in which we can’t invest that are still amazing businesses. So don’t be discouraged, a lot of businesses don’t fit the VC model.”
“The experience market is growing, it’s one of the largest sectors in tourism…”
“Never bullshit the money, because good investors will see through it.”
