Demo Day

Even though we’re still getting used to our daily routine, we must yet talk about Demo Day!

Wednesday, March 27th, marked the culmination of two months of hard work, intensive workshops, fruitful mentoring sessions, adventurous activities and relaxing moments – and all these were celebrated with the Demo Day event, at the Auditorium of Museu da Casa da Luz, in Funchal.

The Demo Day was hosted by Micaela Vieira, Project Manager at Startup Madeira, who shared this two-month-long story with the audience – made up by other entrepreneurs, partners, investors, stakeholders, hoteliers, airports, students, ….

The Vice President of the Regional Government of Madeira, Pedro Calado, officially opened this session. The Vice President warmly welcomed each international startup and entrepreneur to think of Madeira as a home, and talked about the importance of innovation and the tourism sector in Madeira.

Next on the agenda was the moment we have been working for – the pitch presentations by each startup: BookBySlot (India); CycliGO! (Lithuania); Envirate (Finland); Flyright (USA); Instaviagem (Brazil); Placeme (Poland); Portugal Farm Experiences (Portugal); Totte (Spain); Yoospot (UK).

Each one had their spotlight on stage for seven minutes! They shared their story and pitched about the why, what and how of their service/ product.

The session kept on as Micaela welcomed each guest speaker to the stage to share their expertise and inspire the international entrepreneurs.

Pedro Colaco, CEO of GuestCentric, talked about how it was developed and shared the moments that marked the growth of the business.

Filipe Freitas, Pre-Sales Coordinator at Altice Portugal, shared the current mobile travel trends and solutions being developed by Altice, often in collaboration with other startups.

Pedro Figueiredo, CEO at Wall-i, shared how it started from the simple development of an industrial clock solution, and over time pivoted into a digital content and marketing solution.

The closing session was given by Cristina Salsinha, Project Manager at Turismo de Portugal, that congratulated our entrepreneurs for what was accomplished in these two months, and also highlighted how innovation and entrepreneurship have put Portugal on the world map.

This amazing and exciting day ended with a networking session, in the best way possible – with a fresh ice cream made with 100% fruit from Madeira: Friic
