On May 4th and 5th, the theme under the spotlight was Pitch Assessment and Goals & KPIs.
It was Mariana Carvalho Baptista – Community manager at Nova SBE Haddad Entrepreneurship Institute, who was responsible to be the mentor on these subjects.
On May 4th we focused on Pitch Assessment. It was asked each Startup to prepare and present a 3-minute pitch about their core business and their product.
Mariana led them in the first part of the morning, throughout the presentations and Q&A. It was exciting to see them communicate and share their point of view with one another.
This moment allowed a deeper analysis of how others perceive their businesses and how well they can communicate it to others.
In the second part of the morning, we had the Mentors Madness Online, and (oh boy!) it was really a useful Madness.
It consisted of fast-paced mentoring sessions in different online rooms. Each Startup swirled between different rooms and talked with different mentors. They had to explain their business succinctly and the mentors would help them to define the goals they should focus on during the next 6 weeks.
As mentors we had Teresa Graça, Sofia Kousi, Clive Saffery, Tilman Ader, Marisa Carvalho, Narendra Banad, Yannik Rosenlehner, Luis Lages and Marcelo Penteado.
The afternoon was dedicated to reviewing these findings and to mentoring sessions with Mariana.
Before ending the day, they had the time to make an honest sharing about what they liked and disliked on this crazy session day.
On the 4th day, May 5th, we focused on Goals & KPIs, each startup got to work on specific goals to achieve with Madeira Startup Retreat, as Mariana invited the startuppers to think about a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal), their vision/purpose statement, while also working on their KPIs.
The final session was about sharing the six-week plans. The end of the day was marked by a warm round of applause for Mariana (who did a remarkable job!) and of course a group picture!
