On Thursday, February 28th, our startups started the day with a visit to the Municipal Theatre Baltazar Dias, guided by the Director of the Theatre herself, Sandra Nóbrega.
Built in 1887, the Theatre is named after the great blind playwright and poet born in Madeira who marked the national theatre scene, Baltazar Dias.
With a total capacity of 384 seats, 4 of which for people with reduced mobility, the Auditorium was used to countless productions over its life. Sandra reminded us of the many theatre companies that stopped in Madeira and used the Theatre Baltazar Dias as a rehearsal stage before sailing towards other continents for the openings.
We couldn’t have asked for a better guide, as the Director Sandra took us everywhere: from the Teia (Web) located at the attic and the rooftop, down to the sub-stage and catacombs, passing through the stage and backstage, dressing rooms, boxes, Noble Hall, Mirror’s Room and even exposition areas showcasing the work of Portuguese actors, such as Madeirian actor Virgilio Teixeira, known for acting in Portuguese, Spanish and American films in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
After the intensity of the Sprint, an invigorating trip to the Theatre was just what we needed!
